Sr Karin

Qualified as a Professional Nurse in 1976 after studying for 4.5 years for my B Cur degree. I then started working in Cardio Thoracic ICU, and there I have found my niche in nursing. I did the diploma in ICU nursing. It was stimulating and taught me to care for my patient holistically. After 21 years, I decided to broaden my field and worked  for COHSASA, a company which accreditates hospitals in South Africa.

Then I did a 6 year stint at St Lukes Hospice as the Education Coordinator. Back at the hospital setting, I worked for 7 years as the Night Duty Supervisor. And before I left there, I was transferred to the Education Department where I was the facilitator of mostly 1st year students. I really loved it as I could impart my basic nursing care knowledge to the first year nurses and hopefully, managed to instill in them the caring aspect of nursing as well as all the theory.

I also did the Certificate course in Palliative Care and it is the area of nursing that calls to me the most. I see it as a special privilege to accompany the patient and family on his last road before death and have a special interest in adequate pain and symptom control for the patients.

Currently I am assisting as the physical home nurse assessor for CareChamp in the Cape Town region. This comprises of home care assessments and care plan creation as well as required nursing procedures. I also ensure to identify the best suitable caregiver(s) for our clients in Cape Town.
